In a sensational twist, 23-year-old Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, who hails from South Africa with Nigerian and Mozambican roots, has clinched the title of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.
But this victory wasn’t without its fair share of drama. Chidimma, who entered the pageant as Miss Taraba, initially made headlines when she pulled out of the Miss South Africa competition. The reason? A barrage of online backlash over her nationality and some eyebrow-raising fraud accusations from the South African Home Office.
Not one to be kept down, Chidimma accepted an invitation from the Miss Universe organisers following her withdrawal, setting the stage for her triumphant return.
The Miss Universe Nigeria competition itself was a glittering affair, packed with all the glitz, glamour, and sharp intellect you’d expect. The evening reached its peak when the top five finalists were revealed: Miss Taraba Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Anambra Paula Ezendu, Miss Edo Edeifo Brittany, Miss Ondo Ayegbidun Peace Olamide, and Miss Rivers Nyekachi Douglas.
As the tension built, the top three were announced. Miss Ondo snagged the title of Miss Lush, Miss Anambra took first runner-up and Miss Supranational, while Chidimma emerged as the ultimate winner, taking home the crown.
“This crown isn’t just about beauty; it’s a call for unity,” Chidimma declared after her victory. Next up, she’s set to represent Nigeria on the global stage at the Miss Universe contest. Keep your eyes peeled—this story is far from over!
