Togolese Designers & Models Come Together For FIMO 228 To Push For More Eco-Responsible Fashion

France24 reports that there were fifty (50) designers that were invited across the continent, about according to Africa News, a total of 58 designers were present at FIMO 228. And in this term, all of them represented African fashion. As reported by Africanews.com, the show did not only provide the opportunity to discover the latest African fashion trends but also reflected on what has been a major issue in today, thus, the creation of what is considered as an eco-responsible fashion.

It was also reported of a collection that has caused much sensation and was designed by Marrousia Rebecq and Togolese stylist, Desmo. The two are known advocates for fashion recycling which is a means of giving second life to used clothes considered old or unusable.

“And so, for a few years now, I’ve been committed to presenting one or two pieces in my collections that raise people’s awareness on environmental protection. So, with this dress, I’ve intended to change people’s minds because I know that afterward, it will provoke debate. And we’ll be able to debate around it to raise awareness,” said Desmo, as reported by Africa News.

Eco-responsible fashion has become the new strategy for the world to combat pollution after oil spillage from the oil industry. The promoter of FIMO, Jacques Logoh, adopted eco-responsible fashion as the theme for the year to promote more ethical fashion.

“Today, many designers have entered into recycling. We see pollution everywhere, so we want to raise people’s awareness. Today, fashion designers produce a lot of waste when they make their creations, so now they have understood that they must really protect the environment”, he said.

Now, the event is over and it’s left to be seen how far this eco-responsible fashion paradigm is put to practice to save Africa from gross pollution.
