Unlike many African presidents that always spoke but never proved, Ex President John Mahama was alwaays a stench supporter of the Ghanaian fashion industry. Despite being face with, what the nation be see as, more pressing issues, he always made an effort to keep the clothing industry as an item on his agenda.

In 2017 John Mahama declared every first friday of the month a day to wear Batakari. A native northern Ghanaian attire that was booming at the time. By doing so it even had outfits trending online with many blogs covering it. Style girls began to endorse it and smock fabric producers began to see a rise in sales.

Not only that but he has been consistent when wearing traditional fabrics to the center stage of all African or international events, and in 2014 gave the Ghanaian shoe brand, Horseman Shoes, a massive endorsement in Parliament during the State of the Nation Address.

His administration would once in a while do a feature on young fashion brands, and his administration worked the most at dealing with the illegal imports of fabrics in Ghana. Did we forget to mention he ended dumsor (the ongoing light out situation in Ghana), helping many tailors complete their outfits ontime for their clients? Something that has been returned by Nana Addo.

And yes, there is much more than could and should have been done, but is there any other Ghanaian president that celebrate Ghanaian fashion more than him? No! So on this your birthday Mr John Mahama you are still our president.
