Haiti is is going under turmoil and it has reached a lot of mainstream news, but truth be told, this is nothing new. Every now and then, people will grasp onto shocking news that will open their eye to situations of a nation under attack by the west.

In most recent news, the current situation of Haiti became popular when we heard a gang of criminals were running wild. The criminals were alleged Canibals and social media was fed a stream of canibal black men eating humans.

On the contrary, none of this was true; it was false news created not by a small blog but by mainstream media to demonize rebels. Who are these rebels, you may ask? They are the brave, anti-imperial Haitians who were jailed for standing against a government that continued to tear their country apart.

A leading figure nicknamed “Barbecue,” who goes by the name Jimmy Chérizier, is the notorious gang leader who was freed from prison during an outbreak while Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry was out of the country.

However, Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier is not notorious for the cannibalism they claim he is. In fact, he is an ex-policeman turned freedom fighter who has many records under his belt for speaking out against the oppression of their government. Amongst various videos circulating online, here are his words from his own mouth.

In actual fact, Haitians today are the only black/African people who have been able to overturn an oppressive government. While we may have seen such acts and recent coups on the African continent, those weren’t revolutions by the people but instead defections of the nation’s military carrying out the interests of the people. This identifies a real strength in the people of Haiti.

To understand the significance of this, one must understand the real history and resilience of the Haitian people. Haiti is not only the last black nation to date to overturn their oppression with a people’s revolution but also the first.

THE FIRST GROUP OF BLACK PEOPLE TO REVOLT AGAINST WHITE POWER
The first Haitian Revolution, spanning from 1791 to 1804, stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit and resilience of the Haitian people against overwhelming odds. Faced with the might of the French army, one of the most formidable military forces of the time, Haitian revolutionaries led by figures like Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and Henri Christophe, orchestrated a fierce and determined resistance.

Employing guerrilla warfare tactics, strategic alliances, and utilizing the difficult terrain to their advantage, the Haitians successfully repelled successive French attempts to regain control of the colony.

The revolution culminated in 1804 with the declaration of Haiti’s independence, marking the first and only successful slave revolt in history and solidifying the Haitian people’s place in the annals of history as courageous fighters for freedom and justice.

BUT DID HAITI REALLY WIN THE WAR?
Although it hasn’t been roses for the haitian people. Haiti’s history is marred by economic and financial exploitation at the hands of Western powers, dating back to its days as a French colony. Following its successful revolution and declaration of independence in 1804, Haiti faced punitive measures from France, which demanded exorbitant reparations for lost property, including enslaved people, crippling the country’s economy from its inception.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Haiti continued to be subject to foreign intervention, occupation, and economic manipulation by Western nations, most notably the United States. This exploitation included forced trade agreements, unfair labor practices, and the support of corrupt regimes that prioritized foreign interests over the well-being of the Haitian people. The devastating effects of these practices have contributed significantly to Haiti’s ongoing economic struggles, hindering its development and perpetuating a cycle of poverty and dependency.

WHY HAITIANS SHOULD BE TREATED AS AFRICAN ROYALTY
The reality is that Haiti continues to grapple with turmoil due to its refusal to succumb to Western domination, a stance maintained from its inception to the present day. This resistance has escalated to the point where the U.S. government is recruiting soldiers from countries like Kenya and El Salvador to counter the resilience of the ongoing Haitian revolution led by Barbacue.

If the majority of Africans embodied the spirit of the Haitians, Africa would undoubtedly be more united than ever. It is crucial to spotlight their current plight, sparking global discussions on their behalf. With that said, Haitians should always be accorded respect and revered as royalty across African soil for consistently championing African sovereignty since the birth of their nation to the present day, and we can only wish the best results for all the current freedom fighters on the land.
