President Mahama To Support Idris Elba’s Ultra-Modern Film Village in Ghana to Boost Africa’s Creative Industry

Renowned actor and filmmaker Idris Elba has unveiled plans to collaborate with the Ghanaian government to establish a state-of-the-art film and creative village near Osu Castle in Accra. This initiative aims to rejuvenate Africa’s film industry by providing a hub for training, employment, and the celebration of authentic African narratives.

During his recent visit to Ghana, Elba engaged in discussions with President John Dramani Mahama and His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II. He also connected with students from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), expressing his enthusiasm about the potential of Africa’s creative economy. Elba emphasized the need for robust support, infrastructure, and access to propel the industry forward.

“These past few days have been powerful,” Elba shared. “I met with His Excellency President John Mahama, built with His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, and connected with some of the brightest young minds from NAFTI Ghana I’ve ever seen. Big moves always start with real conversations. Africa’s creative economy is rising, but it needs the right support, the right infrastructure, and most importantly, access. This isn’t just a visit. It’s the beginning of something bigger—a plan rooted in culture, creativity, and community that’s going to shape the future. We came here with a vision. Now we’re moving with momentum.”

Elba’s vision for the film village encompasses comprehensive facilities designed to nurture talent and produce world-class content. By situating the complex near the historic Osu Castle, the project seeks to blend Ghana’s rich cultural heritage with contemporary creative endeavors.

This initiative aligns with Elba’s broader commitment to investing in Africa’s entertainment sector. He has previously announced intentions to establish film studios in Tanzania and Ghana, aiming to bolster the continent’s capacity to tell its own stories and contribute significantly to the global film landscape.
