Naomi Osaka just halted the careers of many other tennis players after scooping the trophy at the US Open. Naomi Osaka is of mixed heritage, part Haitian and part Japanese. She has been ranked No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association and is the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles. She is a three-time Grand Slam singles champion and is the reigning champion at the US Open
Prior to this Naomi’s support from urban and black communities was limited due to mainstream media labeling her everything but black, and most likely because she beat Serena Williams. However, with no doubt, she definitely reconnected with many more black fans this year.
It all began when she decided to support anti-police brutality protests in America by wearing nose masks with the names of murdered black Americans such as Ahmed Aubry, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, and more who still haven’t received justice since their deaths.
But just when you thought she has sealed the deal, she decided to celebrate her US open championship in a beautiful African print shift dress with a fabulous headwrap Haitian style. The beautiful champion took to twitter and posted the images with the caption “You Already Know I Had To Bring Out The Headwrap For This One”.

Naomi definitely won the hearts of many Africans and especially her Haitian supporters. She later tweeted “I Would like to thank my ancestors because every time I remember their blood runs through my veins I am reminded that I cannot lose”. Well, now there is no confusion if Naomi Osaka is another Tigerwoods who openly in public refused to be acknowledged as a black man. It’s great to see she proudly embraces both sides of her heritage and it’s culture, and we love that too. Enjoy the images below.
