Our lips just like the eyes also enhance the attractiveness of our face. Think of your lips as a sponge. “When exposed to moisture, they absorb water and plump up. When dehydrated, they dry out and shrink,” explains Bruce Bart, M.D., a dermatologist at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Elements such as pollution, sun exposure, dehydration and smoking cause drying, cracking and chapping of the lips.
Below are some ways to have the a healthy and beautiful lips:
SCRUB LIPS WITH SUGAR
Use lip scrub. It will make the dull lips very bright. Mix sugar, lemon juice and honey. Take all the three ingredients in equal amounts. Use it for massaging the lips. It is the easiest remedies to make the lips pink and soft.
LIMIT THE USE OF LIPSTICKS
Use lipsticks only when you need them the most. They contain chemicals, which are not good for your lips. Make sure you use Lipsticks with Shea butter, Vitamin E, jojoba oil etc that moisturize your lips.
DRINK MORE WATER
Beautiful skin is a product of adequate moisturizing, both from within and without. While you moisturize your lips with a balm, ensure to hydrate your body with water. Water flushes out toxins and rejuvenates the skin. Avoid tobacco, which darkens and thins the lips.
MOISTURIZE THE LIPS
It is important to moisturize the lips as it helps in making them soft and pink. Use good quality lip hydrating moisturizers. It will hydrate the lips so that it does not become dry and cracked. Apply petroleum jelly on the lips before you sleep at night. Apply moisturizers that contain cocoa butter. You can also use moisturizers that contain coconut or olive oil.
STOP THE LICKING HABIT
Licking your lips damages the protective barrier, which can dry out the lips. (Saliva contains digestive enzymes that can break down this barrier.) Instead, regularly apply lip balm.
