And influenced by the artistic music background, Betty Bulongo Chilonde is the designer behind the fashion label “Bulongo.” Full of colour and prints, Bulongo designs fully captures the energy of youth and the uniquely timeless sense of style. Bulongo has showcased at the Zambia Fashion Week as well as the Mozambique fashion week in 2013. Bulongo fashion brand spells elegance. The designer also designs and makes hats that carry a true touch of the African feel. Bulongo’s designs have also featured in Zambia’s leading beauty and lifestyle magazines namely Nkhani Culture and Beauty Zambia. Ms Lombe and Ms Chilonde were Zambia’s representatives at the fashion reception at the African Union summit which took place early this week. Other representatives were drawn from South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Botswana and Angola. The African Union Commission hosted the Africa Fashion Reception at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa. The event was scheduled for 13th – 15th September, 2016, with fashion designers from about 30 African countries. The Africa Fashion Reception was officially launched in Paris in 2013, with the participation of 16 African countries. The second edition saw participants from 24 countries. The first African Fashion Business Summit was held on the 14th under the theme ‘Creating Wealth for African Economies through its Fashion, Garment and Textile Industry’.
