Dakar Fashion Week 2021 took place from the 18th and 19th of December 2021, the event is hosted by the renowned designer Adama Paris of the Senegalese nation and the event was held under a Baobab tree with a stunning unique runway setting.
the extravagant Senegalese event was amongst a number of activities missed out on due to the excessive time allocated into organising the PayPecker Accra Fashion Week 2021 held one week before the 2021 edition of Dakar Fashion Week. The show was the 19th edition and featured creatives from Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Ethiopia and some other 15 fashion designers from Senegal and across the continent.
According to Adama Paris, this year’s edition was less demanding upon her staff due to the ease on the covid-19 restrictions in Senegal, which brought many gatherings to a halt in 2021.
“It’s a meeting of our African fashion family, and besides, right now, with the pandemic, we don’t have everyone. We create our ecosystem and we live it, we live it freely, we live it passionately and we live it without restraint.” Said Adama Paris.
A prime theme for this year’s Dakar Fashion Week was ‘Inclusiveness’, a theme that granted patrons the comfort to witness models of all sizes execute strides across the runway laid ahead of the baobab tree.
The level of creativity showcased was more than ecstatic, culturally infused designs complemented with well decorated and exquisite handmade jewelry adorned by attractive models made in a very natural setting conceived an atmosphere never engineered anywhere in the world.
The aim of returning to the Baobab forest for the 2021 edition was to remind participants of the world’s objective to operate in a sustainable way, in fashion, and more.
