Designers From Africa Set To Participate In The 2nd Edition Of Africa Fashion Show Geneva

The second edition of Africa Fashion Show Geneva organised by Crucible Events and Planners (CEP), a leading events management group in Geneva, is scheduled for 30-31 May, 2014. Following on from the resounding success of the first edition of AFSG held in June 2013, this year’s show will be held at the Château des Penthes, one of Geneva’s most prestigious venues, alongside the “Here Africa” art exhibition organised by Art for the World (AFTW).

Africa Fashion Show Geneva, which aims to showcase and celebrate Africa’s diverse fashion talent and cultural heritage, will feature designs from Africa’s brightest talents, such as Ahdookeh (Morenikeji Fatai Agoro, Nigeria), Baldon Clothiers (Adedoyin Balogun, Nigeria) and Malleni Designs (Peace Malleni, Uganda).

“The Africa Fashion Show Geneva aims not only to promote cultural exchange and encourage a positive narrative about Africa but also utilise the power of innovative, creative solutions – including fashion, music and dance – to create awareness of African excellence in the world,” said Tayo Omotola, CEO of Crucible Events, speaking of AFSG.
“Following on from the success of our debut show last year, we aim to make this sophomore edition another resounding success which celebrates African culture, heritage and fashion,” she added.

Taking place over two days, the event will commence with a runway fashion show on Friday, 30 May 2014 at 19.30 at Château des Penthes and culminate in an exclusive gala evening on Saturday, 31 May 2014 at 19.30 at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Geneva.

Alongside an exclusive runway show, the gala event will also feature live performances by Nigerian rap and hip-hop artist Babatunde and US-based Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and emcee Maimouna “Mumu Fresh” Youssef.

The event is set to host distinguished guests such as Genève International, the diplomatic and UN community, such as Mr. Michael Moller, Acting DG United Nations Office in Geneva, Mrs Anja Loetscher, Director, Geneva Convention & Visitors Bureau as well as African Ambassadors in Geneva and leading names in Swiss business, media and fashion.

As well as providing a unique opportunity for talented upcoming African fashion designers to showcase their designs, the event promises to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere where the audience will not only enjoy great runway shows but also have the opportunity to interact with designers and place orders.
