Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 284 Whoever thought of this is a bit fairly late. The African fabric takeover is in full effect. Nevertheless, here is what we came across. Cultured Expressions is celebrating a new venture called African Fabric Month to promote artistic and practical uses of African fabrics. The company wishes to honour African cultures that create authentic fabrics by encouraging DIY audience to participate in fun, educational and culturally relevant activities during this month-long celebration in September. Cultured Expressions has sponsored the venture to put the spotlight on some of the continent’s most popular textile arts. The company believes that the appeal of the African culture in cloth is growing as its glimpses can be seen in designs on fashion runways, exclusive boutiques as well as home decor items. African fabrics like batik, kuba, adinkra, bogolan/mudcloth, korhogo, adire, kente and more are also being used to create one-of-a-kind garments, accessories, quilts, handbags and home accents. My passion is creating events and activities that expose people of all backgrounds to the beauty of the fabrics, giving them an opportunity to truly feel the fabric and embrace the culture, and African Fabric Month is just another fun vehicle to reach people,” said Lisa Shepard Stewart, author, designer and the owner of Cultured Expressions. Though Stewart is based in New Jersey, US, the African Fabric Month is being celebrated world over through the social media. In order to give DIY audience of all skill levels a chance to showcase their talent in projects like sewing, quilting and more, this venture has a time frame of an entire month.
