As we enter the year 2016 there are a few noticeable trends gaining traction amongst African fashion followers which we would never fail to bring you on FashionGHANA.com.
Designers have always pushed the bar for creativity and extraordinary designs for years and years, however this has been a consistent battle with the African citizens being content in wearing the norm and once in a while with print added flavour.
2016 is set to show differently. In 2015 we witnessed the year ended with the introduction of the amazing cape dresses which captured the hearts of us fashion lovers as seen in the picture below.
However, this year is about to grant us a new baby, that’s the Cloak Dress. What is even more fabulous with the rising creativity of African fashion, African culture is being fused with new trends that hit the world. At first we had to wait for a bit of catching up. The terminologies might get confusing at times, and they can be generally seen as the same from time to time. But the cloak may be easier to distinguish interms of style.
So you can be assured that the cloak dresses are not something that are only trending amongst the African fashion community. But what can we learn of benefit from the cloak style outfits.
Well ladies, It’s time to be powerful, or atleast that’s what everyone with a cloak has taught us. From queens and kings, to super heroes, to army generals. The cloak dress seems to have entered 2016 via influences from the cape dress which will definitely be around for the early 2016.
What is for sure is that the cloaks and cloak dresses will be arriving in all sort of different styles, nevertheless, the impact and significance will remain the same. Earlier this year, we were honored to be part of the Africa International Fashion Week 2015 where an amazing designer, Sevon Dejana and possibly one of Nigeria’s best in our eyes, took to the runway. Amongst a large number of outfits, there was a certified beautiful collection of cloak and cloak style outfits which you can see below.
Now we just need the amazing fashion designer to create the appropriate cloak suits/jackets for men and it’s over.
PS: Cloak Dresses will be available on FashionGHANA.com from the 9th of January, for now google the credits and designer names on the images provided.
