The Association of Fashion Designers of The Gambia has presented a cheque of D100,000 as their contribution towards the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh’s target for the procurement of 1000 beds for the Serekunda Hospital.
The cheque was presented to the vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs, Aja Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy, Tuesday, at her office in State House.
Receiving the cheque from Ida Saine-Conteh, the vice president of the association, VP Njie-Saidy commended the members of the association for the gesture, saying it will go a long way in complementing President Jammeh’s target for the development of the health sector.
She reminded the association that since the coming of the July 22nd Revolution, President Jammeh has always laid high emphasis on women empowerment. She said the donation by the fashion designers is as a result of the president’s continuous support to the women.
While assuring them of government’s readiness to work with people who have the good intention for the betterment of the country, the VP called on members of the association to ensure the training of younger people who will take over from them when they finally leave the industry.Ida Saine-Conteh, the vice president of the association, said they have recognised President Jammeh’s hard work and dedication towards the development of the country particularly the health sector, saying this was why they have decided to also make their contribution. She added that the donated amount was meant to show their solidarity with the president and to reassure him of their continuous support and loyalty at all times in development endeavours.
