The event hosted a wide range of designers predominantly from Rwanda as well as Ghana. This year’s edition follows the inaugural edition staged in 2019, and featured over 15 designers both local and international. The show, which was in a two-year hiatus due to covid-19, aims to provide an inclusive and supportive platform dedicated to emerging and established designers and models, with a touch of African culture. Designers that graced the runway included Rwanda’s Boldy Bonza, Delphinez, Izubaa, Malawi’s Lilly Alphonso that showcased Dessert collections, Kais Divo collection from Uganda, Qaal designs of Somalia, Ghana’s Arshia Wilson, Thando Piliso of South Africa, among many others. This included Ghana-based Rwandan designer, Fathia Uwase of her Fathia collection. She was followed by Bushai weave and Zulera Couture and Abrantie the Gentleman. Danny Ndayishimiye, the brains behind Mercedes Benz Fashion Show Kigali, said the event was successful beyond his expectations, noting that the next edition will take place in different areas of the country. “This edition was special because many players in the fashion Industry missed the experience of such events. Different Rwandan designers have learnt from their fellows from around the world, and I hope that they also learnt something from us. Next year we will be back in style,” he said, after the fashion show. With the experience they have got organizing fashion events, both in Rwanda and abroad, Ndayishimiye is confident that Rwanda is on the right track to becoming one of the most exciting fashion destinations.
