It’s not surprising any more that many African American celebrities have been very expressive about they sway towards African fashion, the list is endless. However, one that seemed to have gone under our radar was Missy Elliot’s appearance on stage with Michelle Obama and others speaking at SXSW Keynote.
The platform which gave a chance to women, including Queen Latifah saw Michelle Obama give an inspiring speech amongst others. Now it’s only right that when you are booked to speak on the same platform at the first lady you will be at your best dressed.
Well Missy Elliot was, and she chose her Dashiki print top. Let’s face it, right now the whole world knows Dashiki ready made print tops are products from China, however they have been a great symbolism for African Americans to show their rooted connections with Africa via fashion. So by far Missy represented well. unfortunately, there are no videos of her words online but we are sure it was definitely inspiring.
