Meghan Markle and Harry from the UK Royal Family have touched down in Nigeria for a three-day visit, marking their first international tour since stepping away from their royal duties in 2020.

The royal couple commenced their journey on Friday, May 10, with a visit to the Lightway Academy in Abuja. There, they engaged with students of all ages and announced a groundbreaking partnership between their Archewell Foundation and the GEANCO Foundation. Together, they will provide vital mental health resources and training to Nigerian youth, in addition to their ongoing efforts to support menstrual health and education for girls and young women in the country.

Meghan, 42, and Harry’s trip holds particular significance as it’s their first visit to Nigeria. For Meghan, the connection is deeply personal, as she discovered her Nigerian heritage through a genealogy test, revealing she’s 43% Nigerian on a 2022 episode of her Archetypes podcast.

Invited by Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, the couple’s itinerary is packed with impactful engagements. Harry, 39, is set to meet with injured service members at a military hospital, while Meghan will co-host a Women in Leadership event with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization.

The weekend continues with a basketball clinic with Giants of Africa, a cultural reception, and a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered. Throughout, Harry will highlight the Invictus Games, celebrating their 10th anniversary this year.
