50-year-old English Model, Actress, Entrepreneur, and fashion icon, Naomi Elaine Campbell is furious, in fact, she is very furious. On … she took to her facebook and instagram to denounce the horrific killing of Nigerian citizens by the government over the protests to end SARS hashtagged #ENDSARS.
However, Facebook discredited and hid her posts as false information and drove the megastar into a frenzy. Furious Naomi then reacted with an all-caps post (meaning she was shouting in her mind behind the keyboard) and wrote “HOW DARE YOU BLOCK ME FROM POSTING THESE IMAGES AND VIDEOS FROM SHOWING THE WORLD THE TRUTH! PEOPLE ARE DYING AND YOU BLOCK POSTS LIKE SOME FAKE VIRUS STORY!!! INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK, INSTEAD OF PROTECTING THESE PEOPLE AND LETTING THE TRUTH COME OUT, YOU BLOCK IT AND ALLOWE TROLLS AND HATE HARM AND HURT PEOPLE! SHAME ON YOU!!!! FREE THE TRUTH!!”
For the many who still don’t know, SARS is The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a branch of the Nigeria Police Force under the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID). The Police Department was founded in 1992.
It proved to be successful in its early years in bringing down crime and fraud, however, in the past decade it is claimed the unit is being run by thugs who have been looting and killing innocent Nigerians randomly.
Recent videos emerged of senseless killings by the SARS officers that sparked the #EndSARS protests and riots. Although there has been an announcement on the disbandment of SARS, Nigerians are still taking to the streets as it has been disbanded before and reinvented and brought back. It is not clear what the objectives of the protestors are at this point however the clash between police and protestors is erupting even more angst and seeing more dead protestors.
Naomi Campbell who has very close relationships with known Nigerian celebrities and is very close with both Wizkid and Skepta is definitely not letting this slide under her radar and has joined the bandwagon of exposing social media’s biasness when it comes to realities of controversial global issues.
