On Wednesday July 3rd, Mayamiko Trust launched their new online boutique, featuring exclusive, ethically made items from their up and coming collection, ‘Mayamiko Designed.’
Established in 2013, Mayamiko Designed is a collection of accessories, home wares and lounge wear, ethically made in Malawi, fusing together contemporary design with traditional African techniques. Fashionistas will be sure to stand out in Mayamiko Designed’s bold traditional African printed cotton, unique fabrics from other neighbouring African countries and beautiful, pastel infused batik and dip dye cotton, which has been hand dyed especially by a local craftsman.
Mayamiko Designed products have been hand produced on the Mayamiko Cotton Project in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Cotton project was set up by Mayamiko Trust, a UK registered charity working to help people lift themselves out of poverty through trade and sustainable activities, concentrating on skills training, education, nutrition, sanitation and promoting fairer trade practices. Currently working with disadvantaged women, the project provides training in sewing and tailoring to local women, who are affected by the HIV pandemic or are carers of HIV orphans. As part of Mayamiko Trust, all profits are used to help the charity continue their amazing work in Malawi.
Mayamiko believes that ethical production should not compromise the quality and design of the product. Mayamiko produce high quality, luxury ethical goods that are unique to the market. As a member of the Ethical Fashion Forums ‘Fellowship 500′, Mayamiko are working towards securing their place as innovators within the UK and global fashion industry.
As an introductory offer, Mayamiko are offering free shipping until July 15th. All you have to do is enter the code FREESHIP at checkout.
