This is the first fashion week we would know of coming to the Capital of Burkina Faso, Ouaga Fashion Week, which is short for Ouagadougou, which is the capital of Burkina Faso. There is much of the African francophone world that goes past the average African anglophone world where we are based. However, across West Africa Burkina Faso has been one of the countries where the popularity of its entertainment sector, especially fashion has not matched to that of other countries.

This excludes the Kora Fashion Awards that rocked the whole Africa in 2010 before moving to Ivory Coast. In one sense, one can expect the forth coming Ouaga Fashion Week to be a display of limited talent due to it’s lack of development in this sector. In another field, another can actually expect to see raw authentic creativity and design of pure traditional flavour of which it’s influences across the globe have been untapped.

Despite the above said, the show seems to be hitting high standards. It is already set to involve designers from other parts of the francophone world, Nigeria, South Africa and UK. There will also be foreign guest speakers from countries such as Brazil and more.

This might just be the event that brands a name for Burkina Faso’s fashion talent, designers and models. Create an avenue of exposure for African bloggers to follow up on. Good luck to the team and be sure to get your updates on the show here. For more information on this event, visit our events page by clicking here.
