Heritage Day is a special occasion in South Africa where the people from that country dress up and let their traditional outfits take center stage as they celebrate their cultural heritage with a touch of the personal artisan. It is a special day for the South African people as the nation strives to be united by the differences that once divided them. The day also passes on a message on the beauty and power of diversity.
With 11 official languages, each culture embraces the essence of what it means to be a South African through food, music, dance, and fashion.
Just recently the country celebrated its Heritage Day for the year. Many of course from the Xhosa tribe to the Zulus, to Swati, Ndebele, Venda, Tsonga, Tswana, and Basotho took to Instagram to share their looks and one of them which went viral we would like to pick on is that of South African Actress Thuso Mbedu’s complete outfit look.
The actress celebrated the day where she shared stories about her identity. The star decided to throw it back to the times when her heritage had been questioned as she reminded her fans of the cultural complexities within them all.
The traditional outfit worn by the actress was ensemble by the fashion brand Bayanda Khathini Clothing. The beauty of the gown was where he used the beads in designing the upper part of the outfit. The beads in addition made the outfit even more colorful and stupendous.
Bayanda Khathini Clothing has created numerous garments that tell the story of being an African child and giving you a sense of belonging to Africa no matter your background or where you find yourself in the world. His designs are eye-catching and portray the deep-seated pride he takes in being an African.
The young designer has won numerous awards, including the 2016 Sansui Summer Cup Young Designer of the year, Best Innovative Student Tshwane University of Technology 2017, and he was a finalist for the 2017 SAFW Scouting Menswear Competition.

Accra Fashion Week is a platform for African designers that can be compared to fashion weeks across the major capitals. It aims to fill the void which sees tremendous creativity and culture across the continent with the absence of an operating fashion infrastructure.
The epic event took place at Ghana Dubai in Accra, and saw models march down the steps from the Kwame Nkrumah Monument whilst being followed by a spotlight, before circulating the central fountains. Memories of the exciting night still give chills as guests revisit the experience on youtube.
However, rest assured that 2022 is going to be even more exciting with greater performances and an upgraded designer collection. FashionGHANA.com is sure to bring you the exclusives we did on www.FashionGHANA.com/TV. All last year’s shows are available to watch on youtube.
