PICTURES: Eugenia Tachie-Menson wins Vlisco Women’s Month Award + Fashion Show

Eugenia Tachie-Menson, social entrepreneur best known for bringing the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Ghana, (the first in Africa), has won the 2014 Vlisco Women’s Month Award, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Saturday night. She beat accountant, Ayesha Bedwei and broadcaster and communications consultant, Anita Erskine-Amaizo to win the coveted prize to become the 2014 Vlisco ambassador.

Throughout last March these women appeared on many media platforms to grant interviews and to seek for the public’s vote to be named as the new Vlisco ambassador. The public were asked to vote for the three women via SMS and the Vlisco website in order for one of them to be named as the Vlisco ambassador . Budding fashion designer, Alinafe also picked up the prize for the Vlisco Fashion Fund completion, winning $2,500 and a trip to the Netherlands, home of Vlisco.

 

The well-attended ceremony which had former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Joyce Aryea, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture, Dzifa Gomashie, Hollywood actress, Rosario Dawson and nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke-Linus in attendance. Stephanie Okereke-Linus whose image has been on the Vlisco Women’s Month campaign including billboards throughout the month of March has been the ambassador for the Dare To Dream campaign in all the markets that Vlisco operates in namely Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin and DRC. She co-hosted the ceremony with Kokoi Selormey.

Entertainment on the night included performance by Noella Wayila, Nana Perbi Cultural Troupe, and poet Nana Asaase. There was a fashion showcase by three designers who have been clothing all three nominees of the Vlisco Women’s Month Awards including SheByBena and Pokua Poqu. The maiden Vlisco Women’s Month took place in March 2013 and the competition was won by Dr. Ellen Maama Hagan, CEO of L’Aine Services Limited.
