Rehearsals for Fashion Night Sierra Leone 2013 to be held on Saturday 30 November in Freetown have begun as the organisers prepare to showcase the rich design talent of Sierra Leone, West Africa, Europe and the US.
Event Management companies Rugged and First Face International will bring together international designers and entertainers to highlight the growing fashion industry in the region and beyond. It is expected that 10 designers from Gambia, UK, France, New York, Morocco and Sierra Leone will show their collections of unique African garments at this one-night event. Nigerian cosmetics company Othinga Beauty Company will be providing all make-up for the models on the night. It is hoped that fashion buyers and industry influencers from around West Africa, along with the international and local fashion crowd will be in attendance.
“African fabrics and designs are becoming increasingly popular in the western fashion market and it’s time we started showing it off, our designers deserve to be recognised”, said Lamrana.
The event is being supported by the Ministry for Tourism who see it as an opportunity to promote Sierra Leone’s fashion industry and creative talents to an international audience and build stronger links with neighbouring countries.
The organisers also plan to gain sponsorship support from corporate organisations in Freetown. It will be an excellent opportunity for local corporates to align their brand with a unique event that will attract a high-end market. The event is also likely to attract extensive media coverage in Sierra Leone and west Africa.
“We would really like to get some more corporate organisations on board. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to support local talent, “ said Lamrana.
Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to ‘The Rainy Season” orphanage in Freetown.
