It may seem like all is over and there is success for organizers of #ChaleWote2015 festival. However a mild controversy springs up!
Accra[dot]Alt, part of the organizing team of Chale Wote 2015 Arts Festival, took to their facebook and posted this about water company Bel Aqua,
As seen above the text reads “Ghanaian corporations won”t support artists but they’ll steal their work to promote their brand. Water company BEL~AQUA using images from #ChaleWote2015 to advertise their water without permission”.
It’s seems Bel Aqua has used pieces of artwork displayed at the festival to launch their new campaign advert. From the text by Accra[dot]Alt, they most likely were approached to sponsor prior to the event and possibly refused.
Bel Aqua was not the only corporation that acted unprinciple according to the organizers. Another post below exposed Blue Skies.
Whether this dispute with Bel Aqua would transpire into something more or simply remain a media and social media acknowledgement of Bel Aqua’s unethical approach to publicity, only time will tell.
However, depending on what sort of contracts the organizers of Chale Wote 2015 arts festival have with their performing talents, if any, they may be able to proceed with this legally. However if they don’t they would need to consult the artists to do so, that is if Bel Aqua hasn’t done so already. Afterall, someone needs to be compensated for their talents.
