The much anticipated Intwasa Fashion Show lived up to expectations with the event being well attended and well organized. On arrival, front row guest who had been invited received a glass of a cocktail of their own. This past Saturday, 26 September at AMTEC Showroom in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, the front row was filled up with Zimbabwe’s Personalities such as Style Icon/TV Buddy – Mbo Mahocs, Actress – Sarah Mpofu, Business Woman – Sipho Mazibuko, Official form the Bulawayo City Council, Fellow Designers & everyone was dressed up for the event.
Scheduled to kick off at 6:30pm, the event kicked off on time with an Avante Garde collection by VONSDESIGNS. Later on the show picked up with some ready to wear collections from Victoria Falls based – Mosi Designs, Elegant collection from Cape Town based designer – Leandri W, Johannesburg Designer – House of Hohwa and a joint collection by the 6 Designers who went through the development programme with Edgars Stores from last year’s show. The setup was unique with 2 cars on display during the event and an on ground black and white petal runway. Model from Botswana also featured on the runway alongside Zimbabwean models and personalities such as Former Miss Zimbabwe – Samantha Tshuma, TV Personality – Arthur Evans, Miss Commonwealth Botswana – Portia Sam, Musicians Prayersoul, Tatenda Mahachi & Duduzile Sibanda of Nobuntu.
Durban Based designer – Thembani Mubochwa & Bulawayo based – Heralds by Ara Kani, stole the show with their outstanding collections. Thembani Mubochwa presented a bespoke menswear collection featuring 3 custom made garments, with one being worn by MNET’s Face of Africa finalist – Tholakele Dlamini who was strutting the runway for the night. Showcasing for the first time, The Heralds by Ara Kani, occupied their space in Zimbabwe Fashion by presenting a lace collection with blue highlights. The 2 young designers who produced their collection under the mentorship of Head Designer of Ara Kani, Nkululeko Ncube, proved to be a force in Zim Fashion and possibly Africa at large. Their finishing and execution was outstanding, they presented work that many designers take years to learn.
The Intwasa Fashion Show which was produced by Style Icon – Gilmore Tee, attracted numerous designers from across the Southern African region and was attended by powerful stakeholders. In its second edition, the fashion show has a future in being one of the leading fashion events in Zimbabwe, with proper management and focus; we will surely be queuing for tickets next year.
