The global pandemic has shifted a lot of activities to the end of the year due to the social distancing and lockdown that took place earlier this year. The world of fashion has been shifted with activities and some of the renowned events are even going virtual.
Here in Ghana our very own Accra Fashion Week is set to execute its Summer/Harmattan edition dubbed ‘Virtual Insanity’ online as seen below.
But it’s not only in Ghana will our fashion week be going virtual, Recently Joburg Fashion Week of South African also announces it will present collections on a virtual platform.
The event is set to feature a ready-to-wear virtual runway with an assortment of curated locations that showcase the beauty of Johannesburg. The runway will be reimagined with each setting to enhance each designers’ storytelling with African culture and heritage.
Earlier this year in March 2020, AFI Fashion Week Cape Town was livestreamed under unforeseen COVID-19 precautions, which was also orchestrated by the same organisers of Joburg Fashion Week.
Marketing Manager for AFI, Roshee Pillay says AFI’s hybrid fashion week aims to bring hope to the industry and connect African brands to global markets through their virtual platform.
“The front row is open to everyone, as we come together to reinvent the fashion industry, restore hope and drive sales for designers through our e-commerce platform,” she says.
