Wendy Shay who has executed a tremendous amount of work to reach where she has gotten to in Ghana’s music world went live yesterday on social meida to connect with her fans.
For those who don’t know, Wendy Shay, officially known as Wendy Addo, is a Ghanaian Afropop and Afrobeats singer and a self-acclaimed Queen of Ghana music.
She had a rocky start to her music career as many deemed her as a mimic of the late international star Ebony Reigns. This shadow lingered over her for the most part of the early days of her career.
Wendy Shay took to her live facebook instagram video to address the issue of haters in this video (click here). The video shows the music star dancing to various songs and taking breaks to expound on whats going on with her.
At some point she begins breaking down how all her songs are literally targetted at her haters in the video below which has had the sound removed in some parts due to copyright issues. She explained they are her motivation and a sign she is doing something right.
She even went on to recite lyrics from songs that some would have assumed were not about haters, but are about them (skip to 45:00minutes). Something that we noticed a long time ago and would rather see her do without as we wrote about in this article.
She then explained in detail how haters were behind taking down one of her latest video on youtube and she went through a long process to get it back.
Apparently, her video ‘Pray For The World’ was reported to have stolen its rhythm from popular South African track ‘Jerusalem’
What Wendy Shay hasn’t realized yet, is everybody has haters!
Wendy Shay Breaks It Down Without Makeup
Never the less, many people did tear into her on social media about coming out without makeup. Various social media pages reposted screenshots to mock her.
And even though she does look a tad bit different without makeup, we congratulate her for doing so.
It is high time we stop body and beauty shaming women and forcing themselves into a conventional state of beauty. Yes, it was obvious Wendy Shay had different skin colour pigmentations across her face, but she is still very beautiful.
There are many girls like this day in and day out that get mocked for some facial attributes or feel they are leveraged to the point they can not step out without wearing makeup.
It takes popular names like Wendy Shay to come out and leverage this beauty in society until it’s acceptable and/or the norm, so keep it up!

UPCOMING TOP EVENTS!
Ghana’s leading fashion event Accra Fashion Week is scheduled for 7-11 December 2022 following their 5th-year celebration last year in 2021. Accra Fashion Week is a platform for African designers that can be compared to fashion weeks across the major capitals. It aims to fill the void which sees tremendous creativity and culture across the continent with the absence of an operating fashion infrastructure.
The epic event took place at Ghana Dubai in Accra, and saw models march down the steps from the Kwame Nkrumah Monument whilst being followed by a spotlight, before circulating the central fountains. Memories of the exciting night still give chills as guests revisit the experience on youtube.
However, rest assured that 2022 is going to be even more exciting with greater performances and an upgraded designer collection. FashionGHANA.com is sure to bring you the exclusives we did on www.FashionGHANA.com/TV. All last year’s shows are available to watch on youtube. Designer’s registration is ongoing on the AccraFashionWeek.org website.
As we embark on another year of celebrating African culture, our theme for 2022 is “Afrofuturism.” This term was created to explore the developing intersection of cultural aesthetic, philosophy of science, and philosophy of history as it relates to the African Diaspora. During this year’s events, Afrochella will bring “Afrofuturism” to life through fashion, food, art and music. In 2019, the African Diaspora returned home to the continent for the “Year of Return.” This year, we will explore the endless possibilities of what “Afrofuturism” could look like in 2022 and beyond.
