Christie Brown Nominated For Ghanaian UK Based African Fashion Fusion

The Guba Awards is a show that which if you are a Ghanaian based in the UK you will automatically be proud of it and its success. GUBA which stands for Ghana-UK Based Achievement Awards has grown from strength to strength with a consistent involvement of Celebrities and some of Ghana’s most important diplomats.

The 2013 nominees and Black star award recipients for the 2013 Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards were revealed at a star studded press launch at the House of Commons on 5th September 2013; presided over by MP Diane Abbot and with Ghana’s Ex Minister of information Fritz Baffour.

Unlike most (not all) of the other categories which consists of talents and achievements by Ghanaians living in the UK, unfortunately, or fortunately for some, this was not the same with the fashion segment. Vying for an award in the African Fashion Fusion category are Mina Evans, Duaba Serwaa, Christie Brown and JIL Boutique. Very popular Ghanaian brands whose popularity has extended beyond Ghana.

guba2However, according to the list published on Peace FM Online there was no Ghanaian UK based designer in the fashion category. Considering the amount of Ghanaian UK based designers that continue to messaged us, I am sure the designers would be more than glad to be considered for the GUBA Award which stands for Ghanaian UK BASED Achievements.

It is all fair and well whatever the organisation concluded that allows Ghana based Ghanaian designers to receive a Ghanaian UK based nomination and award, but it will help to at least have two categories with one giving the platform to the Ghanaian designers in the UK.

Nevertheless, congratulations to the selected designers, voting begins tomorrow on 9th September. GUBA Awards is in its fourth year, the Awards Ceremony will take place at the lavish Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel on the 16th November; on the night, proceeds from a raffle and auction will go towards the GUBA Children’s Foundation Charity – which is currently working on autism projects.
