South Africa’s Thebe Magugu Drops The Lookbook For His Latest FW23 Collection Dubbed ‘Folklorics’

29-year-old South African-based designer Thebe Magugu has released his fall 2023 collection lookbook. The Fall Winter 2023 collection is dubbed ‘Folklorics’.

The designer is making a statement with his South African heritage, working with extravagant layers, and flair dresses indistinguishable from that of 19th-century culture. All whilst working with artwork and patterns that tell stories of the African sea goddess ‘Mami Water’.

Some of the designs depict sea sirens luring sailors to their death splashed across plissé skirts, wide-legged pants, silk-crepe shirt-dresses, and go-anywhere nylon jackets.

Amongst this is also kaftan silhouettes engineered to suit a variety of body shapes, with a particularly elegant chartreuse silk-crepe dress with a woven panel inspired by fishing nets. Form-fitting knitwear in light and heavy gauges, some comprising sweater dresses with cape details, completes the line-up.
