BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — It’s been over 20 years since dancehall’s undisputed king, Vybz Kartel, last headlined a U.S. show — but on April 11, the Worl’ Boss reminded the world exactly why he wears the crown.

Fresh out of prison and back on the mic, Kartel lit up Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for two sold-out nights of raw dancehall energy, electrifying a 19,000-strong crowd that felt more like a slice of Jamaica than the Big Apple.

“13 years inna prison, and mi come out a general!” the deejay roared, kicking off the show with his fiery remix of Akon’s “Locked Up”, immediately sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Backed by Reggae Fest, the concert was nothing short of a Caribbean carnival — Kartel shouted out every major Brooklyn neighborhood from Flatbush to Canarsie, while repping islands like Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad, and St. Vincent.

Kartel didn’t touch the stage until just after 10 p.m., but fans had been whining and grinding for hours thanks to DJ Milan, who kept spirits high with classics from Buju Banton, Shenseea, Elephant Man, and more.

Once on stage, Kartel unloaded a bombshell setlist of bangers, including:

• “Dumpa Truck”

• “Benz Punany”

• “It Bend Like Banana”

• “Come Breed Me”

• “Street Vybz”

• “Turn Up the F–k”

Despite battling Graves’ disease and a heart condition, the Worl’ Boss delivered a two-hour powerhouse performance, tactically giving his guests exactly what they wanted as well as inviting on the stage Busta Rhymes, Spice and new trending article Shenseea.
