The first day of fashion week had an online discussion title “How to find buyers and building a buyer culture in Africa, this session had great international speakers such as Melanie Hanimann who is a renowned fashion buyer and agent based in Switzerland, the next speaker was Moshe Silberberg Co-owner and buyer at RIJOUX From Israel. It was definitely a good one incase you missed we are so gracious to give you all of it here, there was so much information shared from this virtual seminar session which had all three share their experience on the importance as to why designers need to position themselves for potential buyers to approach them and this can only be achieved through by creating pieces that are original, timeless, authentic and have its root with its culture and origin. The three also discus why African creative’s do not meet the standards to create a buyer culture in our fashion industry. But not from a doom and gloom angle, but instead focuses on what needs to be done to make the buyer culture in Africa a reality. Or even highlighting areas, activities, individuals or designers that might be getting it right. Areas discussed are, Do fashion weeks help the process. If yes why if no why, why Africans falling short when it comes to branding, What are the difficulties faced working with African designers as a buyer, and more. The next session followed immediately at 2pm with Speakers which included Innocent Kwashie CEO of Ghana’s premiere fashion blog FASHIONPIVOT (www.fashionopivot.com) and International fashion designer who had his designs showcased virtually on DAY 2 of Accra Fashion Week Virtual Insanity, Clavon Leonard. They talked on the topic Do’s And Dont’s When Developing A Successful Brand. In this edition of Accra Fashion Week’s virtual seminar, CEO & Founder Nana Tamakloe speaks to the two fashion industry moguls. The three individuals open up a discussion to share their knowledge and experience for the best strategic methods of branding and the impact good branding has on a designer’s career. They also touch on the general mistakes and bad habits of African based designers and what could be done or needs to be stopped.
