Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 178 We are constantly shopping for clothes, adding it to our wardrobe and always complaining about having nothing to wear. My favorite line when it comes to putting clothes together for an event is “i don’t have anything to wear!” all my stylist friends can attest to this. When it comes to spending money on clothes, these are few excuses we keep telling ourselves- “I have nothing to wear” “Oh, i only shop when i need things” More Articles You Would Love Quirks Invasion By Orange Culture Rihanna and ASAP Rocky Welcome a Baby Boy RZA “I’m constantly buying special pieces that can go with everything in my wardrobe” “I’m only buying new things because i want to stay trendy and updated” etc If you are constantly thinking or saying – I have a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear, I have a certain amount garments (example: tops) with not enough bottoms or I struggle with styling my pieces more than once then — you are wasting your money. It doesn’t matter if you have 10 shirts and 2 pairs of pants, if you aren’t able to make the most out of what you have you are wasting your money! Now lets dig dip into the Money wasting issue. Ashleigh, a fashion consultant breaks it down for us- 1 – CLOSET FULL OF CLOTHES WITH NOTHING TO WEAR How is that possible? If you have a closet full of clothes there is no way you can not create a look or find ways to re-purpose pieces. If you are struggling to create outfits the reasons very well can be you focus on certain styles or colors and don’t have enough of the basic pieces that help tie the look together. For example, you love to wear crop tops so you fill your wardrobe with them. This particular style garment is not practical for everyday – can you wear a crop top to work? Would you wear a crop top to a networking event? Would you wear a crop top to a wedding? By confining yourself to certain styles, you are limiting your wardrobe and it will be more of a struggle to create different outfits because you are lacking options. When you lack versatility you can’t maximize what you have; in return you resort to wearing the same pieces again and again instead of other items that may be sitting in your wardrobe — wasting your money. 2 – SHOPPING FOR THAT SPECIAL PIECE TO COMPLETE A LOOK When and if you do locate that special piece to complete the look for one outfit, how can you be sure you will know how to style again with a different outfit? You’re spending time and money looking for pieces to complete only one outfit not thinking how can this work with other pieces I have and chances are that special piece will sit in your closet after you wear that ONE time — wasting your money. 3 – YOU SHOP AS YOU NEED TO An upcoming event, vacation or last minute plans are sprung on you? Your first thought should not be, “I NEED TO GO SHOPPING!”- similar to #2 you will spend money to shop around for this special event or occasion then possibly just leave to sit in your wardrobe afterwards because you may not have as much need for it as you did for that special event. The clothes or items fulfilled their purpose at this point. 4 – FOCUSED ON BEING TRENDY Trends as we all know may be in one minute, out the next. So why invest so much into something that be might not be around for a while. You’re constantly spending trying to keep up with the latest instead of investing in building a complete wardrobe where your trendy pieces are just adding to what you have, not all you have. For example, gingham prints are big this season — instead of looking for all things gingham consider starting with one or two pieces to add to what you have. After all, not everything can work with a gingham print so again you’re investing in something that may just end up sitting around. adviceafrican womenAshlieghClosetEsemblefashionfashion consultantmoneystyletipswastingWome Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail maame Pr Manager for FashionGHANA.
