America’s Next Top Model star J Alexander the flamboyant runway coach, will be in Nigeria for the one any only GTBank Fashion Weekend.
J Alexander will be at the GTBank Fashion Weekend speaking at a Seminar titled ‘Africa’s next super model’. The runway coach extraordinaire, as he characterizes himself will share his wealth of experience on how to build a successful modelling career and create Africa’s next Supermodel.
The event will take place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of November 10am, at Plot 1, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos. The question is does J Alexander fully understand that the path for models in Africa is almost 100% different for that of models in USA?
Modeling in UK and USA and other mainstream countries is fairly straight forward. Outside of being extorted by mainstream agencies or exploited by the new ones, once you have the look and you are well behaved, success is technically layed out for you.
However in Africa, the hurdles are a tad bit more than simply finding the right agency and having the looks. Yes, it’s just his job and he has been invited, and can only contribute as a panalist. But in an industry with little to no standards of working ethics, regulatory bodies, or mode of engagement it will be interesting to see how his contribution will impact the attendees.
