When you have roles for Africans, stop casting Americans as Africans. It makes no sense.” She claimed “We have to stand up for ourselves when we see movies where people are speaking as Africans in a different way. Who talks like that in Africa? These things are archaic. They are old, and we should fight to stop them.” She later added, “I pray we are that era now where African actors and filmmakers will be respected for what they bring to the table, and we can really foster collaboration.” Omotola is one of the pioneers of the Nigerian cinematic era and the most-watched actress in Africa. In 2013, she was honored in the Times Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world alongside Michelle Obama and Beyonce. She also received an honorary title from the Nigerian government as a member of the order of the Federal Government of Nigeria for her contributions to the Nigerian cinema, Nollywood.
