Kente print is still trending and thanks to beauties like Raven Jones. The popular instagram model was recently spotted in a haute kente print mini skirt bodycon dress with flair sleeves. She coupled the outfits with a fantastic head wrap allowing her to flaunt her sexiness all whilst being culturally appropriate.
Raven Jones is a top slim but curvy beauty that has for long being modeling in amazing outfits by African brands, as well as serving her fans amazing swimwear hotshots. The dress in question was designed by Ghanaian US-based designer, Mimmy Yeboah.
KENTE PRINT VS REAL KENTE CLOTH
The kente design once took its roots as a fabric of royalty. The rich colors and representation of the patterns and the long process it took to create beautiful fabrics. However in more recent times in Africa, Ghana to be specific, the Chinese companies have flooded the market with print versions of kente, destroying the ever once so cherished fabrics and the employment and industry created around it, whilst the government sits idly by. Read more on that below.
Despite what has been stolen from the economy, it seems the culture, essence, and representation of the fabrics still remains. And hot images like that of Raven Jones keep Africa in the limelight. Check out the beauty below and she serves us wonderful shots in Mimmy Yeboah’s latest outfit.
PS: Do note mini skirt dresses with bold arm/hand designs are usually perfect for outings such as club nights, dates or an evening out with friends. They don’t serve well for casual daytime outfits unless one is seeking more attention than usual.
MODERN AFRICAN FASHION
In the earlier days, many women were scrutinized for sexualizing African prints, kente, and African culture as we saw the rise of hot women in African orientated dress. Today, these images are some of the most viral pictures on social media and widely accepted.
UPCOMING TOP EVENTS!
Ghana’s leading fashion event Accra Fashion Week is scheduled for 7-11 December 2022 following their 5th-year celebration last year in 2021. Accra Fashion Week is a platform for African designers that can be compared to fashion weeks across the major capitals. It aims to fill the void which sees tremendous creativity and culture across the continent with the absence of an operating fashion infrastructure.
The epic event took place at Ghana Dubai in Accra, and saw models march down the steps from the Kwame Nkrumah Monument whilst being followed by a spotlight, before circulating the central fountains. Memories of the exciting night still give chills as guests revisit the experience on youtube.
However, rest assured that 2022 is going to be even more exciting with greater performances and an upgraded designer collection. FashionGHANA.com is sure to bring you the exclusives we did on www.FashionGHANA.com/TV. All last year’s shows are available to watch on youtube. Designer’s registration is ongoing on the AccraFashionWeek.org website.
As we embark on another year of celebrating African culture, our theme for 2022 is “Afrofuturism.” This term was created to explore the developing intersection of cultural aesthetic, philosophy of science, and philosophy of history as it relates to the African Diaspora. During this year’s events, Afrochella will bring “Afrofuturism” to life through fashion, food, art and music. In 2019, the African Diaspora returned home to the continent for the “Year of Return.” This year, we will explore the endless possibilities of what “Afrofuturism” could look like in 2022 and beyond.
