Ghana Industry Creatives & Events
The copycat culture of fashion is one that has been at the forefront of creatives for years. from mini-scale activities to areas of which some classify as cultural appropriation.
Obtaining copyrights on designs and trademarks is not the simplest process especially in Africa. And once obtains and copied the judicial process in another aggressive process of incorporative legal professionals.
And even when you succeed in such a process, what is to say the person you are suing can even afford the penality of the harm caused. Mr. Ghartey, CEO of one of Ghana’s leading menswear brand Jay Ray Fashion decided to voice his disappointment in such acts.
Jay Ray took to his instagram to voice his disappointment in the tailors and upcoming designers to avoid imitating and copying people’s hard work. He even went to the extent of letting them know he is even prepared to help them stand on their own than for them to continue imitating him.
He further pleaded to customers of African fashion to avoid buying such products and always work to source the original brands behind the outfits. Watch below.
