Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 325 As i was doing a protective style for my natural hair last weekend, my hair stylist made a statement that drew my attention. She said “Now everyone you know is going for natural hair” i asked her what her thoughts was and i concluded that she thinks it is a trend that is soaring. I wanted to leave the situation as it is but then i couldn’t because it was my job to educate people about natural hair since i am a naturalista and have read much about it. She later made a statement about how her husband not liking it when she tries to grow her natural out saying its tacky. I didn’t judge her husband because we are different and have different preferences but then i also couldn’t throw away the fact that he must be a natural hair illiterate. She thought about it and said “Yes” but everyone is trying to do it! I explained to her that “we don’t go natural but we return natural because its our God given hair”. I get comments that makes me sad sometimes but then when i think of the love i have for my hair i brush it off. I remember when someone from my family told me that i looked more beautiful when i had a permed hair and that men don’t like women with natural kinky hair. I sat them down to explain to them that the application of all manner of perming creams and cream relaxers to the hair has scientifically been proven to be dangerous. These products are said to contain dangerous chemicals such as sodium hydroxide that can result in painful sores on the scalp as well as scalp burns. After talking to them they had a fair idea of how having a natural hair is safe and a good way of going back to my roots. Furthermore, i referred them to an interview with Dr Roseline Osazuwa, a skin specialist at the Rabito Clinic in Accra, Ghana who revealed that, said among the numerous harmful effects of perming, the hair loses its natural elasticity, becomes fragile, prone to breakage and damage to the follicles or root of the hair. Perms and relaxers have been a long-time favorite of African American women promising silky straight hair for difficult to manage locks, but this beauty regimen comes at a high price – hair breakage, scalp irritation, stunted hair growth, and even permanent hair loss. After the long chat they came to realize that they had low knowledge on our natural hair. I urge every naturalista who has enough knowledge about their hair to spread the word and let people know that Natural hair is not a trend but a healthy way of growing our hair. educationhair and beautykinky hairnaturalnatural hairrootsthoughts Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail maame Pr Manager for FashionGHANA.
