Backed by some of the biggest players in the fashion industry, this fashion week is set to bring footprints of global fashion heavy weights into new interactions in the fashion and retailscape in Africa. Designers, Photographers, Buyers and other practitioners have pitched in; stimulating interest from the market and companies that are interested in playing in Africa or reaching their audience on the continent. Africa International Fashion Week partnered with Vogue Italia for the first ever “Vogue Talent for Africa”. The winner – Maxhosa by Laduma is a young South African who since winning this project has been seen at various events in the world, most recently at the Vogue Talent in Milan and Dubai respectively. In 2016, they are partnering again with Vogue and we are looking forward to it with great expectations. The best thing about 2015 is that Delta State in conjunction with Desopadec (Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission) has come on board as the Title sponsor of this great event. Desopadec is known to engage the youths positively and coming into the business of fashion will give more opportunities to the youths in that region. The AGOA (African Growth Opportunity Act) that President Clinton started has not being utilized in Nigeria. However, President Obama has renewed the AGOA to 2025 and this is the opportunity of a lifetime and Nigeria especially Delta State has seized the opportunity to position herself as the front runner in the business of fashion. Already, works are in top gear to actualize this dream. Nimasa (Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency) also has come on board as a sponsor. These are agencies that see social corporate responsibilities as the way forward. Studio24 remains one of our greatest and constant partners.
