Fred Chyke is a renowned Nigerian male model who has walked almost every show in his country Nigeria, he is signed to XA models and the word professional is an understatement for the jaw-dropping fashion model.
He was one of the few models selected by the AFWk organization to participate in Paypecker Accra Fashion Week 2021, which took place 2 weeks ago, and a simple snipette of him strutting down the runway in Broots Fashion sent the model viral in only a matter of days as seen below.
However, Fred’s connection to Accra Fashion Week is deeper than many would know. To date Fred Chyke is the only model to have walked Accra Fashion Week in its inception in 2016 all whilst being selected amongst many to grace the runway in 2021! Accra Fashion Week which is now the most popular fashion week website according to both Alexa.com and WebsiteOutlook.com, beating New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week (read here) has really experienced various changes since is was launched.
Fred Makes His 5 Year Mark On Accra Fashion Week
In a fast-moving world of model faces where one week you are in and the it-girl/guy, and the next week you are out, Fred has managed to always reinvent and renovate himself year in year out. According to the assistant production manager behind Accra Fashion Week, Fred was almost excluded from participating as he was not present at the casting and was almost unrecognizable. It took a staff member who was present in 2016 to update her on who he was before the organization warmed up to him and treated him as an Accra Fashion Week legendary model.
During the show, Fred easily caught the attention of the female models as well as guests. However, his eye-grabbing looks also caught the attention of every designer and ended up walking for every menswear and unisex brand on the show.
Fred Recollect His AFWk Experience
Shortly after the show ended, he took to Instagram to recount his Accra Fashion Week experience from 2016 to now in an instagram post stating the very text below…
The maiden edition of the Accra fashion Week in 2016, which held at the International Trade Fair Center, Greater Accra, Ghana, was a fascinating event showcasing High fashion Models, designers and the latest fashion trends from all over including Nigeria, USA, Ethiopia, Senegal, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, South Africa, UK, Netherlands and much more
The birth of the Accra Fashion Week brought about a turning point for Runway fashion shows in Ghana, as the Organizers painstakingly went through the process of ensuring High Fashion Models, and not commercial models walked the runway, thus setting a trend which led to the fashion event becoming a highly anticipated show, to the delectation of fashion lovers in and outside Ghana.
This year marked the 5th anniversary of Accra Fashion Week, after last year’s break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Yours’ Faithfully graced the runway once again.
The 4 days Fashion event was very flamboyant and highly colorful and was held at different locations thus adding some pizzaz to the whole event. In its usual pattern, the Fashion event featured different High fashion models, designers, and fashion labels from across the globe such as @impari_moda from Germany, @yvonneexgh from Ghana, @brootsfashion Clavon Leonard from the USA, @nallemclothing @dmarshcouture, Mark Johnson from the UK, Red Cotton Boutique, @briwireduah @mikokodeluxe and designs by @fashionghana_com, amongst others.
Fred’s recollection was published on his instagram page with a snapshot of his participation in both events. An experience no other model can allude to even those in Ghana due to very short-lived modeling careers.
According to CEO of Accra Fashion Week, Nana Tamakloe
“He might not know it, but Fred’s participation to me was a key factor in our 5th-anniversary celebration. Outside of him, the only thing that connects 2016 to 2021 is memories. Seeing the growth the fashion week has gone through to develop, and become 20 times better than how it started was all embodied in him as a model. He has grown from being barely recognized on the runway, to now being the most admired male model to participate. I think when remembering our 5th-anniversary celebration there is no doubt he will be a major part of the experience and memory alongside the designers that have pulled through with us since our first year. It was an honour to see him on the runway again.”
To date, Fred is not only a runway model as he started but also an actor, a dancer and a stylist. So keep your eye wide open and look out for the multi-talented Nigerian star representing the green and white flag in various countries.
