Lovely setting, lovely styling and lovely runway. Mild Rastafarian style made chic and soon international via the Tommy Hilfiger Brand. The collection has sparked the usual controversial discussions between those that will call it culture vulturing and those that are pleased to see Caribbean styles modernized. I think it’s a great way to fire back at the rumours of racist claims that keep reemerging.
I don’t know what to make of the concept of Tommy hilfiger going Caribean! Not long ago Victor And Rolf were highly glorified for making outfits with print styles commonly used in Africa. From where I sit, I wasn’t really bothered about the notion of international designers creating an African feel with their ideas as compared to others. I was more concerned how the media treated it like a fashion revolution when it had existed for years in Africa. I would assume that is probably how Caribbeans might see this. Whichever way, one can’t deny that the runway setting is tremendously fabulous! Watch the video below.
