Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 8.6K Netflix’s season 2 for the ‘Young, Famous & African’ has recently dropped, and as always people were simply there for the drama. With all the emotion, the show really and truly should have been titled Young, Emotional & African. However, unlike most other Black or African shows on Netflix, one refreshing aspect about the show is you shouldn’t expect any embarrassing representation of Africans or black people as a whole, nor any hidden gender grooming, political or social messages. Just a show you can comfortably watch with African people, that feels quite wierd! Anyways, definitely an interesting show, We wouldn’t categorise it as a must watch, because it isn’t, but we can definitely assure you it is a very interesting and entertaining show, once you get into the character. The show is a reality series that follows a crew of celebrities as they work and play, flirt and feud in the City of Gold, celebrating all things African, extravagant and excessive. But what is most captivating and a beautiful contribution to the representation of Africa, is the beautiful glamourous clothes that will make us the envy of the eye to any foreign nation watching. There is definitely a wide range of haute couture styling, on-the-ball accessorising and everyday glamour. And the one man to thank for many of the looks is a stylist by the name of Phupho Gumede-K. https://www.instagram.com/p/CsdinGTo5Jr/ Gumede-K is a master of styling for reality TV. His work has been on our screens for years. He styled South African star Ayanda Ncwane in her former role on Real Housewives of Durban, and it was this experience, coupled with his understanding of local TV, that enabled Gumede-K to deck the bright lights and big city streets of Sandton in style as he took on dressing the stars of Young, Famous & African. Gumede is the reason why despite Annie and Swanky having a fued throughout the show, she was still well dressed and at the top of her style game. Gumede-K’s Instagram page offers a look into his life and shows his love of all things dazzling. He’s a celebrity in his own right, with his double-barrelled surname, Gumede-Kardashian, and his constant travelling, events and photo shoots. According to Gumede-K a stylists job is to work with each celebrity’s style, taste and concerns. For some celebs, a stylist is more like a personal shopper. For others, a stylist brings options to the table, and for some, stylists do it all, including being a friend and confidant. Gumede-K says his work isn’t about reinventing his clients; it’s about pushing style boundaries and giving local brands a global platform. See the visuals below.
