Winifred Esi Sam has been appointed as Ghana’s representative to compete in the upcoming Future Face of Africa set to be executed in just 5 days in Nigeria. This is the maiden edition of the modeling competition on the continent which will see contestants from various African countries locking heads on January 30, 2022, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
Winifred Ruled 2021
For those that have kept an eye on the Ghanaian world of models, there is no doubt the young and tall Winifred owned 2021 by proving to be very productive in the fields of runway modeling. Winifred’s whose modeling career kicked off in 2019 as the Face of Accra Fashion Week 2019 (as seen below) made a historical thrust featuring on Nivea’s billboards and Accra Fashion Week 2020 billboards across the country, after which she was then signed to Confidence Models during her reign.
in 2020, Winifred faced odds against her elder brother and contention with parents when trying to become a model at the age of 18 forgoing many tearful moments Though her beginning was tough, she couldn’t give up on dreams. She told us, “If you want something, go get it. None can stop you. Not even my family could stop me. I chose my career over my education because this is what I wanted to do”.
Future Face Of Africa Casting
There was casting held all over the continent in eight (8) countries: Senegal, Cameroon, Nigeria, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Angola and Ghana. Ghana’s casting was hosted on October 30, 2021, by journalist Ekow Barnes and producer Emmanuel Ekuban. Many great talents turned up to win the only spot to represent Ghana. Two top ladies were considered, Farida Laryea and Winifred. Unfortunately, Farida could not join the task ahead due to travel complications. Winifred’s selection was publicized last week when she took to her instagram post to share her gratitude with the casting directors.
Following a shameful performance by the Ghanaian football team in the Afcon Cup of Nations, a win by Winifred may just put the Ghanaian nation back on a smiling track.
Future Face of Africa Takes The Centre Stage
The Future Face of Africa is not the first of its kind. Back in the early 2000’s the elderly citizens across the African continent had the chance of experiencing the then very popular Face of Africa organized by Maxine, the event saw its last edition around 2006. Then Nigerian supermodel Oluchi launched Africa’s Next Top Model, hosting the very popular franchise by Tyra Banks. The event saw 2 editions and then tanked, giving birth to the very popular Amito Lagum from Uganda.
Although, Future Face of Africa seems more promising in terms of duration. The event put together by Elohor is an extension of her work as the former organizer of Elite Model Look Nigeria. There is no public statement as to why the separation from the franchise, however, it is in good faith that her talent is being applied to a franchise born here right in Africa. Read more below.
